Seabird: If you’re looking for a place to take you back to summer, this is it. Their menu has all the seafood you can imagine–oysters, lobster roll, sweet and sour octopus, crab lasagna mac and cheese, salmon poke, and more. They even have a few great non-seafood options like a chicken teriyaki sandwich, veggie burger, and bacon cheeseburger. Cherry on top? The outdoor seating is perfect for people watching.
Megu: Now under new management, Megu was reborn into the basement of the Dream Hotel (it’s original location in Tribeca was closed two years ago). The clubstaurant vibes (fitting for its Meatpacking location) with the infinity mirror staircase, warm 3D lighting, and lounge style seating make it perfect starter to a girls night out. The menu also does not disappoint, with a wide selection of sushi and unique appetizers such as tuna tartare cones and edamame lollipops. Don’t leave without trying the raindrop cake.
Dinnertable: This “reverse speakeasy” spot is hidden in the popular bar, Garret East. It’s menu consists of Italian-American comfort food, very fitting for its cozy setting. Our favorite dishes are the Lasagna Bolognese for two and Sixth Guy’s Burger. Note that the restaurant only operates Tuesday through Sunday from 5:30 p.m. until 11 p.m. and they won’t accept large group reservations, so it’s probably best to save it for date night.
Bowery Market: BM is a new open air food market with special selections from vendors Sushi on Jones, Alidoro, Pulqueria, Champion Coffee, and The Butcher’s Daughter. There is limited seating (2-3 tables and some bar space) so its best for picking up food on the go, or groups of two catching up over a light bite. Its charm radiates at night when twinkling lights can be seen overhead the tight walkway–also making it a pretty ideal date spot.
Emmy Squared: We knew this would be good because of its older sister restaurant, Emily (in Clinton Hill). The pizza is “Detroit style” so expect it to be thicker and more square than New York style, but not quite as deep dish as Chicago style. All options are good, but you can’t go wrong with the “Emmy” which is topped with mozzarella, onions, banana peppers, and ranch. Similar to Emily, they are also known for their burger that comes on a pretzel bun (but its only sold during lunch, or on Friday/Sat nights).
Momosan Ramen & Sake: Now that summer is over, slurping season is just around the corner (but for some I know it’s all year round). This is the first ramen spot by celebrity Chef Masaharu Morimoto and we think he knocked it out of the park. We love the communal seating and its unique appetizers with ingredients like peking duck tacos, pig ear and pig feet–if you’re feeling a little adventurous.
